Gloomwood forest stream update#
The delay is only three weeks, they explain, and will allow them to make up for time lost due to illness and provide some breathing room for the launch of an update to another game they’re working on, Ultrakill. “Due to some unforeseen game development issues that have cropped up over the last few months, as well as several of our developers falling sick to The Gloom (COVID) we’ve made the decision to push back the Gloomwood Early Access release date,” the devs write in a Steam update. Gloomwood will now enter Early Access on September 6. While that had been slated for August 16, the developers have announced that they’re pushing the date back a few weeks. Ideally, the finished product will not feel like "bad Thief" but rather a modern interpretation.‘Thief with guns’ has been the tagline for indie immersive sim Gloomwood since it first appeared two years ago, and that’s naturally led to a high level of anticipation for its Early Access release date. Not quite to that extreme, but making combat a more viable option if you're smart about it than it was in Thief.Īll that is to say, the game is clearly more than a year out from release, and the demo we all played is 7 months old at this point, so they've clearly got a lot of work to do.

I also felt that Gloomwood was less anti-combat than Thief is, leaning a touch more toward the Dishonored side. A game with more modern quality of life features that still adheres to a more classic design philosophy. Something like Gloomwood can be a good introduction to that style of game for those people. I'd argue that the original Thief games, while more accessible than cRPGs of that era, still can be intimidating to players who have never experienced them before and don't have a ton of stealth game experience.
Gloomwood forest stream series#
It doesn't make Baldur's Gate any less brilliant, it isn't aiming to replace it, but it does give fans of that series a new thing to play that is similar, without feeling exactly the same, and also providing new players an entry point to the genre. You can compare it to something like Pillars of Eternity, which is very clearly inspired by Baldur's Gate, but built on top of a new ruleset that (in my view) is easier to understand. More broadly speaking, I think the big appeal of spiritual successors like this is the accessibility factor. Time will tell, of course, but I think this update is definitely a move in the right direction. This video is basically 6 minutes of the developers talking about how they've upped the interactivity and player choice in the game in response to that feedback, and I think it looks fantastic. First off, I agree with your assessment of the demo feeling like a poor imitation of Thief, primarily because it felt like Thief without the player choice and interactivity, which got rather boring. This really is worth a watch and looks a very promissing and exiting game. New areas are also showed and the game should be accessible in 2022. The undertaker weapon now has several ammo type and can be used to not only silently kill lights but also push buttons/swithes. The canesword blocking has been improved. They have more plans like tripwire dynamite. They are now traps you can use, like the bear trap. The AI has been improved and they now have a speech system that let communicate their suspicions and awareness state to each other and have conversation you can eve drop on like the guards in Thief.
Gloomwood forest stream generator#
Power generator can control electricity in a building or city block, and they control not just lights but also many other machinery you can use to distrack or kill enemies or unlock new paths. You can pickpocket enemies to get keys to unlock doors or relock doors.īreakable lights, switches, power generators.

Lots of customization based on what item you decide to bring (or leave behind.)

Example drag remove bullets from your guns and trow them to distract an enemy. Resident Evil 4 inspired Inventory system: drag physical item from the world in the inventory. Some notes of the new features from the video:
